Terrific Tuesday!

Well, I spoke with the surgeon just a couple of minutes ago (lunch time) and he said that Kelsey has eaten TWICE and has kept all of it down. He's listened to his tummy and has heard strong bowel sounds and apparently Kelsey has made it outside to make a #2 lawn deposit (poopy) already twice too! His temperature has stayed down and is at 101.2 right now!

But, the BEST NEWS??????????

I get to pick him up and bring him home today!!!!

If he's up to it, I'll let him use the computer so he can thank you all himself for all the prayers and well wishes. We'll see how he's doing.

More soon!

Still getting there...

Last check of temp was 101.4. It was 102.5 four hours previous and I was able to go visit with my Kelsey. I would like to think that I helped bring it down.

The vet had to give a medication to stimulate the intestines because after eating his "intestinal diet" he vomited after 5 hours.

He is shaved and I told him that the other huskies were going to call him a poodle. HA!

He looks so much better and made sure to slather my face with Kelsey kisses (oh how much I have missed that).

I spent about an hour with him today, but he's still at the hospital. Until he keeps food down, he can't come home.

Smokey smelled him on me though and finally ate and seemed to cheer up.

Home soon? I sure hope so.

I'll get some pics of him and post them soon.

Thank you all again!

Sunday Update

The surgeon called this morning, as promised. Kelsey's temperature is now 103.1. We're going up instead of down. This is very upsetting to me, moreso than you will ever know.

They changed his initial IV port in case that was the cause, so I guess time will tell.

On the upside, he's holding down water and he's not appearing to have any leakage from the intestinal repair, which is good. He is going to start to eat a ID (intestinal diet) food today at around 2:00, so again, time will tell.

I'm starting to feel like I'm going to lose my mind over this. All I do is cry and feel sick to my stomach. I just want him home again so that I can touch him and smell his fur and look into those beautiful blue eyes. I miss him so much.

Please continue to pray, and again thank you all so much for all of the prayers already made.

UPDATE...

So far so good. The temperature is holding at good 102.3 which is down from 102.5. I know it's not much, but for all he's been through it is a huge thing.

He's going to the bathroom all by himself (another huge thing).

We're still in the window of time where things can turn on us and go down hill (3-5 days) however, I'm trying not to let that be a thing I think about.

I will know more in the morning between 8 - 9 so I will update at that time.

I'm very proud to tell people and their pets that I'm a member of such an extraordinary group. You are the best friends that a dog and his mommy could ever have.

Thank you all SO VERY MUCH for all of your paw-rayers.

Cody

Keep those paw-rayers a comin please...

You are all so wonderful and Kelsey is so blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends. Your warm words and well wishes have made me cry more tears of joy than you could ever know.

At 4:30 this morning, I woke up again (not sleeping real well) and called the emergency hospital where he is. His temperature has come down to 101.3, which is even lower than it was when we first arrived at the specialists office (102.6). The nurse there said that he's sitting up and standing to move around in his cage (oh how much I wish he were home on the bed with me), and that his foot swelled a bit from the coban wrap that is used to cover the IV, but she re-wrapped it and it is doing better.

So far, so good, but we're still in that window where all could fail. I am trying to think positive. I know he's a fighter and he's still got a lot of life in him.

Please continue to pray and cross those paws for him. I will update as I have more.

Thank you all so very much. This has been a sort of release for me too. If you ask Holly's mom, you'll know that Kelsey's mom is having an extremely hard time with all of this.

Smokey isn't dealing with it well either, so we're thinkin about a nice walk today since my foot's better.

UPDATE: The specialist just called and said that Kelsey's blood count and protein counts look really good and are holding steady. He is producing urine which is good and they took him outside to walk around a bit and he seems to be walking well.

He did vomit last night, but the Dr. said it was after they had given his IV antibiotic and it could have been from that or the obvious stress. He said that for all Kelsey's been through, he looks great.

He said that there didn't seem to be any fluid in his tummy (which is good) and that his temp is 103 at this time, but they had taken it after he was moving around and so he felt that to be ok.

They will check his temp every 3-4 hours and will continue IV fluids with pain management today and hopefully tomorrow or later tonight introduce water back in.

He said he would call me this afternoon around 5:00 pm with more updates. Sounds like he's in excellent hands, so the rest is up to Kelsey's sweet white body. I'll let you all know more as I have it.

Thanks again to all of you.

My love,
Cody

Pics I promised

Ok, here are some pics of Kelsey post surgery. The top one is with the tubes and iv still going. He was making small swallows, which were good signs.

This is his incision. He obviously will be very sore after coming to.

This is what NOT TO EAT. While leather tastes good, please don't eat it. Your humans will have to endure the same stress and tears that I have. If only Kelsey knew what I've gone through.

UPDATE: I went and saw Kelsey after work tonight. He jumped out of his kennel at me and licked my face (the vet tech told me it would take two people to get him out - HA!) We went outside to try to pee (he keeps having to be catheratized) and instead of using the "facilities" he burrowed his head in a snow drift which he obviously missed.

After I left, he threw up again. I think it was just too much too soon. Tomorrow will be moist food, so we'll see.

I will keep you all posted on his progress.

Hugs and drool from Smokey and love and thanks from his family.

Cody

Asking for prayers.....

Hello to all. This is Kelsey's mommy and I'm calling for all the prayers possible.

If you've ready Holly's blog, then you know that Kelsey is in the hospital. The purse he ate that got him into HULA and is pictured on Meeshka's blog from January 27, got him very sick and he had to have emergency surgery.

Holly's mom was kind enough to come and console me while I waited for his surgery to end so that I could see him. I did take some pictures and will post them later tonight when I get home from work.

As of right now, he's still in a large amount of pain. He's on pain meds and is drinking water without any problems. He won't urinate on his own though, so they have to catheterize him from time to time to empty his bladder. The last time produced 540 cc's, which is quite a lot.

The vet tech said that he's up walking around and has gotten so many kisses that the fur on his nose is gonna start thinning.

So far, there's no fever so that is an awesome sign of a full recovery. Time will tell. I've given it to God on my end, and ask that you pray for his full recovery. I will be Kelsey proofing the house and will be hiding all the purses, shoes, and anything else that might be tempting to chew on.

He will get soft food tomorrow if all goes well today and could possibly come home Saturday.

To those who have already crossed their paws for him, thank you! It means so much to me to know that so many of you are thinking of him.

My love to all of you sweet fur babies and remember that just because it's fun to chew on doesn't mean that you should,

Cody

I really gotta stop slacking off...

Obviously I've got issues with getting on the computer. If my boy would log off sometimes, I could use it more, but he's always on there playing games.

Well, the weather is warm and the snow is melting. Stinks too. It was fun playing in the snow and then putting my freezing cold wet nose on the humans in our house. Oh well, what are ya gonna do?

I've been being rather rough with my human mom lately. She was annoying me so I pinched her arm a couple of times with my overbite. She's got some pretty colors on her arm now. Everyone asks her what happened, and of course, my name comes up.

Hollie's mom brought over a can of food for us to try. It was DEEEEELISHIS! It was sweet potato and duck. Though, it might have been more fun to actually catch the duck myself. I have to get my human to buy me some of this stuff.

Ok, I've gotta go for now, but I will be back sooner than later.

Hugs and Drool
Kelsey

Back again

Hurooooooo all! Well, I've been pretty busy lately. Mom's doing better with her foot. Soon she'll be ready to start going for long walks---I hope.

I had to go to the doggie dr last Friday. My tummy started hurting and I was vomiting all over the carpet. My mom was really worried about me.

We went to see Dr Osterholm. She checked me out (took my blood and put something in my behind) and then she told mom that my back teary uh was growing too much. She gave me a shot so I wouldn't vomit anymore and an anti bio tick. She also gave me two pre scripshuns. I'm feeling so much better!

I have already begun to get back to my old ways. I've taken a shoe outside. I've gotten the cabinets open. I've bit mom playfully, and I've tried to eat dad's chips.

I hope to be writing more often, so check back. Also, did you notice anyone white and fluffy as a new HULA member? IT'S ME!!!!! WOOOooooo HOooooooooooo!

Bark at ya later,
Kel

Snow?

Snow? Where's the snow? I heard my human talking about this giant snow storm that was to be coming this weekend, but I don't see it.

Where's it at? I'm ready for it. I've been such patient pup and all I want is some snow to play in. I haven't chewed on anything for quite some time (ok, a week or so) and I've only gotten into the trash once and I want some snow!

If you know where my snow is, could you please let me know?

Thanks!
Kel

Sorry it's been so long...

Well, where the heck have I been? I think with all the ruckus from the humans in my house, I just got sidetracked.

Mom's hard red thing comes off her foot tomorrow. The van is getting fixed this week. My other mommy Janice (Holly's mommy) came to visit this past week (maybe it was two weeks, who can keep track of these things). My goodness it's been busy around here.

Well, here's the news from Omaha. There is no news. Our life is boring. Our humans are boring. Such is life I guess. Busy busy busy.

However, I did read that it is Abbey's birthday (Holly's house has the info and pics) and that is a wonderful thing! Abbey was so nice to me when I lived there. She's one heck of a gal. Happy Birthday Abbey!

I'm still laughing about Samuel and his "thingie" getting his shirt wet. He and I weren't the best of friends when I lived there, so I'm getting quite the kick out of this torment he's dealing with. Keep the funny pics a comin Holly! They're wonderful!

I hope everydog (and FuFu) are doing well and that your tummies are full and scratched often. I'll post more soon!

Hugs and Drool,
Kel

Snow is good for me, but bad for dad....

Well, it finally snowed here. As you know, I really enjoy the snow. HOWEVER, dad went to the grocery store so mom could make something called chili, and had a small mishap. Pictures are attached.

This is what we get when we ask for snow. :>(
Dad is ok though. Someone pulled out in front of him and when dad tried to miss the idiot in the truck, he slid on the icy road into a ditch and hit a telephone pole. Thank goodness dad is ok. He's just upset that the van is squished. He said mom will have a hard time since she's got to get in and out through the passenger side until the van is fixed and with her cast, it will be a challenge. Bummer.

Hugs, Kel

Not much to talk about, but here's some pics

Here's me and Smokey hogging the bed. Needless to say, mom went downstairs and slept in the chair this night. We would have moved, really.

Here's me sleeping like I saw it done by Monty at Holly's House (if memory serves me). It's comfortable and I like it. Thanks for the tip!

Here I am with mom's post operative foot. See how sweet I'm being?

Smokey still thinks he's a lap dog. Oh yeah, I am the designer of those pants dad has on. I thought the giant hole would be a nice touch, so I tore them with my teeth one day...while dad was in them. teehee

Ok, last but not least, here are the newest tries at being pathetic. I hope that we've made Sam proud. It's a lot of work being this pathetic.

Hope you all enjoyed our newest pictures.

Hugs and drool,
Kel and Smokey

Uh oh, we've been tagged.....

Ok, here are the things I wish for on Christmas....

1. A delicious plate of Christmas dinner
2. A delicious plate of Christmas dessert
3. Happiness and peace for all my furry friends (I know, I'm a sap)

Three things I don't want? That's easy...
1. Dry dog food for Christmas dinner and/or dessert
2. Warm weather ...... YUCK. (Bring on the SNOW)
3. Sadness, hunger, illness, or anything else bad for any of my furry friends (still sappy, sorry)

The Rules:The player of this game starts with "3 things he/she would love to get for Christmas", and then lists "3 things he/she definitely does not want to get for Christmas." Then, he/she tags 5 friends and lists their names. The ones who get tagged need to write on their blogs about their Christmas wishes, as well as state this rule clearly, then tag 5 more victims. And, the one who tags, needs to leave a comment that says, "You've been Christmas tagged!" in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

Ok, I will tag the following: Dusty Doodles, Turbo, FuFu, Opy, and last but not least, Macy and Maleachai.
Happy Howlidays to all!

New hard red thing...

Mom was in an exceptionally good mood today. She's starting a new job with Holly's mom (my foster mom) next Monday. She seems really excited about it.

Today, she went to the doctor (vet?) and got a hard red thing on her leg. It smells funny and when you lick it, it's really scratchy.

Also today, she kept asking me how someone could not love me. What the heck does that mean? She says that the person who turned me out must not have had much of a heart because I'm beautiful and the love of her life. She even told my dad that when he got home from work! She must be on some good medication! Ha Ha

I'll be back with more soon and some pics this weekend! I hope everypup (and all furry friends) are doing well!

Love and Drool,
Kel

Mom's getting better........s l o w l y .....

Well, thank you to all of you who have inquired bouts my mom. She's getting better slowly. We're trying to help her out with getting round the house and stuff, but it seems like we end up in the way more often than not.

She had a couple of really bad days where she was crying a lot. There was nothing we could do to make her smile. I tried too. I gave kisses (them teardrops are salty), I tried to be the cutest I could be and rolled on my back to "air it out" which normally makes her tell me how silly I am and giggle. I tried everything I could think of. I even made noises I don't normally make (I'm not a very vocal husky boy), but I did it, I woowooo'd and I barked, and I wimpered. I did all of it for her. Nothing doin. She just cried and hugged me so tight I was choking.....

Dad says that she's depressed cuz she can't get around so well. I guess when you've got 4 legs and one goes bad, it's not that big of deal to get around cuz you've got three others, but when you're a biped and one goes bad, it's hard to get around on just one. She sure wasn't taking it very well.

This lasted for last Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday. Who knew you could cry so much?! Anyway, she seems to be doing a little better with it. She still can't get around so well, but she's smiling more which is nice. Plus, now she thinks we're cute again. She apologized to us for "neglecting"us. I'm not sure what that means, but to me it meant carrots (YUM) and kisses and hugs.

I hope that you all are having a great holiday season!

Talk to you all soon!
Kelsey and Smokey

Sorry it's been so long...

Hurooo all! Sorry it's been so long since our last post! Seems like forever since we've been able to use the computer, but it's been really crazy around here. Our human mom had to have surgery on one of her walking legs. She was gone for a night in the hospital, and since she's come home she has been just sitting in the big chair in the living room.

I don't think she feels too good because she's not as happy as she was before she spent the night at the hospital. I hope she starts feeling better soon, because I miss my happy mommy. She still tries to make sure we get a lot of kisses though, which I am happy about.

How's everyone else been? Looks like Samuel (from Holly's house) has been up to no good (at least pouting and itching).

I hope that all is well with everyone and that you forgive me for not blogging recently. I felt like I needed to be by my human mom's side to comfort her. She took a picture of me doing just that, and I will post it soon.

Thanksgiving....

Happy Thanksgiving to all (humes included).

My humom says that Thanksgiving Day is a day to be thankful for the things you have in life. I'm not sure if that means I'm sposed to be thankful for the toys I have or the warm bed I getta sleep in. I'm going to go with the latter.

I'm thankful for the nummy food I get every day. I'm thankful for the cold fresh water I get to drink and for the doggie door that leads me out into my back yard where I get to play anytime that I want. I'm thankful for always having the option to come back into the house when I want to (unlike when I was out running loose).

I'm thankful for the pool I get to play in when it's hot outside and the vents I get to lay on when I'm hot (they blow out cold air).

I'm thankful for Smokey who I get to play with and love very much.

I'm thankful for Holly's mom, because without her, I could be on Rainbow Bridge.

Most of all, I'm thankful for the faces I get to lick at home. I'm thankful for the hugs I get, the love I get, and the love I get to give.

What are all of you thankful for?

Weekends over

Well, the weekend is over, but it's ok with me because my hudad is on vacation all week long. I'm not sure what that means, but I overheard mom and him talking about him being home all week and something about when to make the turkey and stuff which I am excited about!

Here's a picture of the nummies my humom makes for us. It gots carrots that are crunchy, green beans, cooked chicken, sliced crunchy apples, and punkin from a can with just a touch of dry food and my medicine. It's deeeeellliiiicccious!

Mom says it is good for me, but who cares bout that? I just know it tastes really good and is fun to eat cuz it's got all different feelings on my mouth when I eat it.

I was talking to my mom the other night and she told me about it being Shula Mae's anniversay since she left us for Rainbow Bridge. Shula Mae used to live at Holly's House (http://hollyshouse5.blogspot.com/) I met Shula once, and I have to tell you that she was a wonderful girl. She was cute the way she pranced and her little yippy husky bark was outta this world! She is still missed every single day but we'll meet again at Rainbow Bridge where we'll play and play! Here's a WoowoOooooOOOoo to you Shula. WOOOOOOO wooooooooWOoooooooOOooooooo
